Biography
Surya Nepal is a Principal Research Scientist working on Service and Cloud Computing. He has also worked on trust and security aspects of collaboration at CSIRO ICT Centre. His main research interest is in the development and implementation of technologies in the area of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and Web Services. He obtained his BE from National Institute of Technology, Surat, India. After graduating in Computer Engineering in 1993, he worked at the Rastriya Banijya Bank (National Commerce Bank) as a software engineer and software project leader, developing banking software. After nearly two years' work experiences, he took an opportunity to do ME from Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. After completion of his masters, he started his research career as a research associate working on database transaction and logic programming. He then took an opportunity to do PhD from RMIT University, Australia. In 2000, after completion of his PhD, he joined the CSIRO Division of Mathematical and Information Sciences. At CSIRO, Surya undertook research in the area of multimedia databases, web services and service oriented architectures, and security and trust in collaborative environment. He has also edited a book on “Managing Multimedia Semantics”. He has several journal and conference papers in these areas to his credit.
