Biography

Robert joined the Spatial Information Systems group at CSIRO in 1992 as a software engineer working on spatial database systems. He moved to the Internet Marketplaces group in 1998 where he helped develop advanced internet applications focusing on the exchange of spatial data in distributed information systems. In 2002 Robert joined the Grid Computing group where he worked on advanced algorithms for processing large astronomy datasets, developed a prototype version of the Australia telescope Online Archive, and implemented techniques for searching datasets of high dimensions. 2005-2007 he worked in the Information Engineering Laboratory on security and privacy aspects of integrated information systems. 2008-2009 he was involved in the development of a national geospatial framework for water features in the Water for a Healthy Country Flagship working with the Bureau of Meteorology. In 2009 he was on secondment with the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, helping with the software framework to support the Basin Plan. In 2010 and 2011 he investigated the use of Social Networks to aid emergency management and the use of Web services to support the supply of water data to the Bureau of Meteorology. Currently he is working with Fire and Rescue NSW to develop an Impacts Portal.
