Biography

Mark Hedley was awarded a B.Sc., a B.E. in electronic engineering and a Ph.D. all from the University of Sydney, Australia. He was then a member of the academic staff at the same university for several years before joining the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) where he presently leads a team within the ICT Centre undertaking research in cooperative localisation. His research has included medical image processing, video compression, computer vision, acoustic imaging and communication theory. Scientific outcomes from this work has included over 100 articles in refereed journals or conferences, the supervision of numerous students, and the development of techniques for high resolution acoustic imaging, MIMO detection and error correction. Commercial outcomes have included writing over 40 reports for clients, developing video and audio codecs that were used in a commercial product, managing and contributing technically to the AMI project that successfully developed defence technology and generated over $2m for CSIRO and contributing technically to projects funded by NASA, Boeing and CISCO.
