Biography

Hugo is a Research Scientist within the Health Information Systems (HIS) team at the CSIRO Australian E-Health Research Centre (AEHRC). The team is closely involved with the research team at the Australian Imaging, Biomarker and Lifestyle (AIBL) study of Ageing to investigate the effects of neurodegenerative diseases on the ageing population, to develop novel applications for the semantic integration and querying of clinical data.

Hugo did a Bachelor of Science with Honours at the University of Ulster at Jordanstown, Northern Ireland majoring in Computing and Information Systems. He then did a Master of Computing by Research at Monash University in network simulation. He subsequently completed a PhD in Software visualisation to expedite comprehension to assist novice programmers migrating from a sequential to a multi-threaded environment.

His main interests are in the application of semantic technologies to integrate ontological information into clinical data to facilitate querying, reasoning and visualisation of the clinical data.

Prior to joining CSIRO, Hugo was a Software Engineer working in the fields of model-driven development, service-oriented architecture and information retrieval.
