Biography

Born in Mönchengladbach, Germany, in 1986, Hendrik Erckens spent one year in Pennsylvania, USA, before graduating from High School in Wiesbaden, Germany, in 2006. He then studied Mechanical Engineering at ETH Zurich and acquired his Bachelor's Degree in 2009. Beginning in 2008, Hendrik has led a student project with the aim to build the unmanned, autonomous sailboat Avalon, 4 meters in length. He developed the control systems that steer the boat. After his graduation from ETH, he has started a five months internship at CSIRO in Brisbane, Australia. During this time he is developing control systems and other pieces of software in order to automate a Bobcat skid steer loader to do autonomous earth moving.
