Biography
In 1993 I commenced my doctoral thesis research supported and jointly supervised by the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility and the University of Sydney. As a student I investigated the distortion of millimetre-wavelength radio signals by water-vapour in the atmosphere, developed a radiometer to measure radio emission from the atmosphere in a spectral band around 220GHz, and investigated the accuracy with which atmospheric water-vapour could be estimated from ground based measurements of radio emission from the atmosphere.
In 1998 I joined the CSIRO Radiophysics Laboratory in the Signal Processing Group. At CSIRO I have developed signal processing algorithms for sensor networks, ultra-wideband ground penetrating radar, and three-dimensional sonar imaging. I have developed radio frequency amplifier and mixer circuits for signals between 5GHz and 40GHz, transistor structures and test structures for a Gallium-Arsenide semiconductor foundry process; modem and intermediate frequency circuits and signal processing algorithms for multi-gigabit per second radio communications. I have been involved with developing algorithms for the localisation of impacts on aerospace vehicles, and the detection of human respiration and pulse using remote radio frequency detection.
