Biography

I am a network engineer in the Wireless and Networking Technologies Laboratory of the CSIRO ICT Centre and am industry certified under the CCIE program of Cisco Systems (CCIE No. 25254). I am currently working as the network architect for a project that is developing a new wireless broadband system for rural Australia. In this role I am responsible for designing the end-to-end system architecture for the Ngara broadband wireless access and backhaul system demonstrators and lead a team of engineers and scientists in developing the MAC layer protocol for these systems. I also do network design and implementation for the Australian Square Kilometre Array (ASKAP) project with CSIRO Astronomical and Space Sciences (CASS).

Prior to joining CSIRO in 2002, I worked for a tier-2 telecommunications carrier (PowerTel) doing design and rollout of a national transmission network. Before that I worked for a software engineering company on a large networking project for a major utility.

I have design, implementation and operational experience in a wide range of advanced telecommunications equipment and protocols in both commercial and research environments. Particular areas of expertise include Ethernet switching, IP routing, IP multicast, IPv6, SDH transmission, ATM switching, optical networks and firewall configuration. I also have experience in microcode programming of network processors, UNIX/Linux system administration and implementation of fibre channel SANs.

My professional interest is the application of advanced Ethernet and IP-based technologies to specific industry domains, particularly those that will help Australian industries to be more competitive.
