Biography
Andrew Weily received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 1995, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, in 2001. From 1999 to 2001, he was a Research Assistant at UTS, working on a project in medical applications of antennas which examined the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias using microwave ablation. From 2001 to 2006 he was a Macquarie University Research Fellow then an ARC Linkage Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Department of Electronics, Macquarie University, Sydney, NSW, Australia. During this time he developed novel components based on Electromagnetic Bandgap (EBG) materials, including high gain planar EBG antennas as well as “woodpile” EBG waveguides, horn antennas and arrays. In October 2006 he joined the Wireless Technologies Laboratory at the CSIRO ICT Centre, Sydney. His research interests are in the areas of EBG antennas and waveguide components, frequency selective surfaces, leaky wave antennas, dielectric resonator filters, reconfigurable antennas, near-field antenna measurements and numerical methods in electromagnetics.
