Biography
Andrew Lampert joined CSIRO in February 2002 after several years developing software in the internet and telecommunications industries. Andrew works as a Research Engineer in the Information Engineering Laboratory at the Marsfield lab of the CSIRO ICT Centre.
During his first 5 years at CSIRO, Andrew led the Information Delivery team’s software development activities, and was responsible for implementing the team’s research in software, including software delivered to commercial partners such as Boeing. Andrew was formerly the software architect and technical lead for Myriad, the lab's platform for context-sensitive information retrieval and delivery. The core component of Myriad is an in-house natural language generation engine, called the Virtual Document Planner (VDP).
Andrew's PhD research is exploring how to automatically identify tasks (requests and promises for action) in email messages and how to exploit the structure of the email conversations in which they occur.
Andrew plays a key role in communicating and presenting research to partners, customers, colleagues and prospects, and at conferences and workshops. As part of these research community activities, Andrew has served as an elected member of the Executive Committee for the Australasian Language Technology Association since 2005.
