Biography

In 1980, Leslie Overs started his working life as a technician and completed an apprenticeship with a small company in Gympie Queensland. He joined Sanyo Australia in 1986 and gained experience in surface mount technology through work carried out on 8 mm and digital video cameras, digital effects VCRs, video laser, compact disc players, CTV and LCD projectors. During 1992, he started a degree at the Queensland University of Technology and also became the Queensland State Service Manager for Sanyo Australia, responsible for service and support in the Queensland and northern NSW region.

Leslie Overs received his First Class Honours Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1997 from the Queensland University of Technology. In that year, he presented a paper on his final year project, AC-DC Quasi- Resonant Converter with Sinusoidal Input Current and Unity Power Factor, with Dr Keith Hoffman at the AUPEC '97 Conference. He also won the Power Engineering Project Expo'97 at the Queensland University of Technology.

Leslie Overs joined CSIRO in 1999. In the Autonomous Systems Lab, his primary task was the design hardware systems for the laboratories many projects and activities. He is currently the Engineering Support Manager/ Research Team Leader for the Brisbane laboratory. He manages four staff members, including technicians Steve Bronson and John Whitham and engineers Paul Flick and Brett Wood.
