I lead the research concerned with Information Services and
Information Delivery. We are part of the
Information Engineering Laboratory of the
ICT
Centre. We were previously the Intelligent
Interactive Technology Research Group, one of the research groups
of the Electronic Content
Technologies Research Programme at CSIRO/CMIS. [See my activities]
I am also the Science Leader for Human Information Interaction.
Other Affiliations:
I am currently the chair for
CHISIG, the Computer Human Interaction Special Interest Group of
the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia (HSESA)
I am the co-organiser for the fortnightly
CSIRO HAIL Seminar series, the longest running seminar series in Sydney. (We are taking a break
for a couple of months now, as we have just moved offices and are getting settled in our new building.)
I am on the Executive Committee of SIGGEN, the ACL Special
Interaction Group in Natural Language Generation.
News:
- User Modelling and User Adapted Interaction: Special Issue on e-Health: Floriana Grasso and myself are the Editors of
this special issue. Deadline: December 1st, 2009. See the call for papers for details.
- HCSNet Workshop on Social Technologies Applications for Health and Medicine,
Thurs/Friday, August 20-21 2009, Melbourne (Australia). See www.hcsnet.edu.au.
A great deal of research supports the belief that social interactions affect
people’s health in various ways. Online communities have added a relatively
new dimension to the lives of many people. This workshop aims to bring together
a group of researchers and practitioners from medical, social and information
technology communities to understand how social technologies might be used to
support health and health initiatives.
- OZCHI 2009 - Design - Open 24_7. CHISIG's major annual conference, OZCHI, will be held in Melbourne, Victoria,
Australia, 23 - 27 NOVEMBER 2009, at The University of Melbourne. For more information, see
www.ozchi.org.
- Post-Doc positions at CSIRO:
There are often opportunities for Post-Doc position at CSIRO and
in the ICT Centre in particular.
Contact me if you are interested.
- Internships: If you are interested in an internship with us, contact me.
A note of warning: we don't always have funding available.
Conferences and Workshops:
Seminars: HAIL (Hci
AI and Language Technology) seminars.
Andrew Lampert and myself organise the HAIL seminar series, a
forum, held in Sydney, for researchers and members of the
industrial community to present and discuss work related to Human
Computer Interaction, Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language
Processing/Language Technology.
The seminar series has now been running for 12 years. We are taking a break
for a couple of months now, as we have just moved offices and are getting settled in our new building. Stay tuned!
Check
the web site for the next seminar.
Recent News:
- Julien Blondeau just finished an internship with us, working with
Stephen Wan. He was working on our In-Browser
Summarisation system (IBES) and our Citation-Sensitive In-Browser Summariser (CSIBS).
