Intelligent Interactive Technology

Note: 2003: We are now in the CSIRO ICT Centre, as the research group called Information Delivery.
This page remains as corporate memory. However, events and projects have not been updated.
Please look at our new web page.

The Intelligent Interactive Technology (IIT) team at the CSIRO conducts basic and applied research in Computational Linguistics, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Multi-Agent Technology to improve human-computer interaction.

Our focus is on the design and development of new technology for customised information delivery, using natural language or other modalities.

The IIT team, lead by Dr Cécile Paris, combines Natural Language Processing (NLP), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Information Agents to:

- Develop intelligent mechanisms to process natural language (e.g., synthesise or summarise text)
- Develop natural language interfaces
- Develop mechanisms for coherent, tailored information delivery
- Develop smart agents that reason about content, knowledge and user interactions.

CLT Logo The IIT team are active participants in the Centre for Language Technology at Macquarie University. CSIRO also provides financial support to the Centre.
We are also actively involved in CHISIG, the Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction of Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia (ESA). Currently, Cécile Paris is the Chair of CHISIG. CHISIG Logo

Cécile Paris and Stephen Wan both serve on the Executive Committee of ALTA, the Australasian Language Technology Association.

Announcements:

HAIL seminars are held every fortnight (11am on alternate Tuesdays), and present work from research organisations and industry.

For more information about these free seminars, please visit the HAIL seminar page.

  • IIT in the News:   Information Overload

Bruce McCabe has published a great article about our research in The Australian newspaper. Read about his views on Developers giving us information overload.

More information about CARRS, the Computer Automated Road Report System described in the article, can be found on the CARRS project page.

  • Upcoming Conferences

View our events page to find a list of conferences relevant to Natural Language Processing, Information Delivery, User Modeling and Information Agents.
