Intelligent Agents in Knowledge Factory

It is well-known that parallels can be drawn between knowledge-based applications and other value-added processes (eg., manufacturing). In particular, the "knowledge value chain" is typically described as a series of states (stages of processing), with a series of action steps required to move from each stage of processing to the next. Importantly,  it can be defined as a series of related activities that together produce end-user benefits.

Knowledge Factory is a novel concept designed for and employed in the AIMS CSP - it generalises the idea of a knowledge value chain. Put simply, the knowledge factory is the multi-agent environment where multiple knowledge value chains intersect and augment each other. In other words, knowledge fragments that appear as results of actions can be (re-)used by different agents and serve as input to various chains.

For instance, FLOCK knowledge factory is operated by agents that

  • read and parse e-mail messages;

  • extract and analyse key message morphemes;

  • calculate important metrics (TF-IDF, etc.);

  • learn, update and filter user profiles;

  • reason and profile messages into appropriate folders;

  • evaluate the performance and adapt to change.
