Cécile Paris' Research Interests
My main research interests lie in the areas of Language Technology,
User Modeling and Human-Computer Interactions. I am particularly
interested in automatically generating coherent texts (both multi-sentential
texts and in the context of dialogues) that are optimally informative
for their intended users, given the users' level of domain knowledge,
their goals for using the system, their native language, etc.
To this end, I am looking into designing (potentially multilingual)
language systems that tailor their output to users and situations
and are able to adapt their behavior based on feedback from the
user. An important focus of my research addresses the practicality
of generation systems, by looking for ways to automate the acquisition
of the various resources required for generation.. Other the
past few years, I have been interested in issues related to
Controlled Natural Languages, multilinguality, and internationalisation
of software. The application domains for my work currently
include automatic documentation, electronic business applications
and virtual museums.
More generally, I am interested both in facilitating communication
with computers and in understanding how people communicate.
