Biography
Andrew Lampert joined CSIRO after several years developing software in the internet and telecommunications industries. He currently works as a Research Engineer in the Information Engineering Laboratory, and is based at the CSIRO Radiophysics Laboratory in Marsfield, Sydney.
Andrew's expertise lies in the fields of natural language processing, text analysis and computational linguistics. He has significant experience analysing, architecting and implementing complex, distributed software applications to demonstrate and deliver research to customers in real-world environments.
Andrew’s research focuses on intelligent information extraction, aggregation and delivery, tailored to the context of a user's interaction. Andrew has specific expertise and a long-standing interest in language analysis tasks related to email and other forms of computer mediated communication and conversational data. Andrew's PhD research is exploring how to automatically identify tasks (requests and promises for action) in email messages and how to exploit the structure of the email conversations in which they occur. His research has been published and presented in high-impact international conferences and journals, and has been awarded several best paper and best presentation awards.
Andrew is also deeply involved in the wider research community. Since 2002, Andrew has coordinated a public research seminar series at CSIRO, and since 2005, Andrew has served as an elected member of the executive committee (currently as secretary and treasurer) for the Australasian Language Technology Association. He regularly serves on program committees and reviews papers for local and international conferences and journals, and is a member of the Association for Computational Linguistics.
