CSIRO created the software which resolved the incompatibility between the haptic and graphical display of the same models. This software platform was licensed to the newly-formed Reachin Technologies AB in Sweden in 1998. Visit www.reachin.se Today the CSIRO Haptic Workbench consists of a set of high-level software libraries built on the Reachin application programming interface. These libraries contain the past eight year’s research experience working with haptic technology and have been deployed on a number of haptic configurations including Augmented Haptics and the original desktop Haptic Workbench. |

The CSIRO Haptic Workbench was developed early in 1997 and was
presented in the Exhibition at ACM SIGGRAPH in July 1997. It combined
the Phantom haptic device from Sensable Technologies with a hands-in
virtual environment developed at the University of Singapore using a
monitor mounted over a mirror and stereo shutter-glasses to achieve the
collocation of the user’s hand-held stylus and the displayed 3D model.
