CSIRO ROBOTICS AND AUTOMATION Open Days

As part of National Science Week 2007, CSIRO is opening its robotics and automation laboratories for you to explore. This is your chance to see the very latest technologies in robotics, sensors and automation for environmental management, mining and industry.

Note that there are two Open Days - Sat 25th August for the general public and Mon 27th August for schools (registration has closed as we have reached our capacity).

You’ll see Starbug, CSIRO’s robotic submarine; a robotic helicopter and large automated mining vehicles which are able to operate without human intervention.

We'll also be showing the latest advances in sensor networks research. Compact, low-cost sensors can measure anything from the temperature in your kitchen to the level of water in a dam, and communicate with each other to pass data back to the lab. These "wireless sensor networks" will increasingly be important tools for managing our scarce energy and water resources, and for many other applications. Find out more about this exciting new field and meet the scientists making it happen.

There’s a lot to see and do all day with demonstrations, talks and people to meet. You’ll have the chance to meet and hear leading CSIRO scientists and find out about careers in science and technology. Come along and join us for a day filled with fun and learning.
