Peter Ferris is the General Manager of Technology and Planning,
in the Networks Division of SingTel Optus. He has held this role
since February 2004 and has been with Optus for the last 13 years.
Peter is currently responsible for the selection of the
technology used in the Optus Network and all of its Network
Facilities, as well as the Optus Network strategic planning and
architecture, focusing on the 2 to 5 year timeframe. He is also
responsible for the Nexus Project, which has a prime focus on
improving the robustness of the Optus Network.
From January 2000 to January 2004 Peter was responsible for the
engineering of the Optus Transmission Network and all of its Network
Facilities, as well as the deployment of all transmission, data and
switch network elements. The design and implementation of the long
haul DWDM systems and associated bandwidth managers, as well as the
Optus CAN 2000 architecture were major achievements in this
position.
Between October 1993 and January 2000, he has held a series of
senior managerial positions within Optus, related to the design,
support and operation of the Optus network.
Prior to working for Optus, he worked for Telecom Australia (now
Telstra) in a series of managerial and technical roles for more than
23 years. Throughout that period he was involved in the design,
installation and operation of Telecom Australia’s ARE11 & ARF
exchanges; as well as the Digital, Radio and Analog transmission
networks.
Peter is also an ACC accredited Level 2 Basketball Coach
supporting the junior representative program at Parramatta
Basketball Association, and the Optus Corporate Games Basketball
teams (Men’s Gold and Women’s Silver medal winners in 2006!) over
the last 12 years.
