Wireless broadband has been the subject of
significant industry hype for a number of years but is now beginning
to deliver practical services to consumers. Australia, and Sydney in
particular, is leading the world in the commercial deployment of a
range of wireless broadband technologies. These currently deployed
technologies are briefly reviewed to understanding future evolution
paths. Future technologies are discussed with a focus on those with
significant standards momentum such as those put forward by the
3GPP, 3GPP2 and IEEE. A comparison of each technology is undertaken
and the commercial realities of each discussed.
