Dr Michael Withford
Dr Michael Withford is an Associate Director and supervisor of
postgraduate students within the Centre for Lasers and Applications
at Macquarie University, which has 12 years of experience in using
lasers to burn microscopic holes in everything from catheters to
Olympic torches.
Withford is also Macquarie Node Director of the Centre for
Ultrahigh-bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems (CUDOS) a
multi-organisation centre which began operating at the beginning of
2003 under the Australian Research Council’s Centres of Excellence
scheme with the collective goal of producing a miniaturised photonic
chip, only millimetres in size, upon which the next generation of
optical systems will be built.
