Seminar Series: Technology Trends 2004
Ethics
Peter Busch (Macquarie University)
Peter's Ph.D. was on tacit knowledge diffusion in
the IT organisational domain. Tacit knowledge is complex and widespread,
but for the purposes of this presentation refers to a form of management
expertise. Consistent with the 'soft' nature of this research, a
considerable portion of tacit knowledge is actually based on the
differences between what could be termed 'ethical' (or what you
should do) and realistic (or what you would actually do) behaviour.
It is this unwritten knowledge that typically differentiates the
workplace successful from the less so. The talk will focus on some
of the research results to come out of the Ph.D. with an emphasis
on ethical issues in the IT domain.
