Seminar Series: Technology Trends 2005
Trends in Multi-Antenna Broadband Communications.
Dr Iain
Collings, Science Leader, Communications and Signal Processing, CSIRO ICT Centre
Broadband mobile communication systems are quickly moving to take
advantage of new signal processing techniques for exploiting
multiple antennas at both transmitter and receiver. An important
recent result from information theory is that there is a fundamental
trade-off between diversity for robustness, and multiplexing for
increased data rates. This talk will discuss current and future
signal processing methods which aim to optimize this trade-off, in
terms of practical preformance. Attention will be paid to WLAN
systems, however the concepts apply equally to future cellular
B3G/4G communications.
