Seminar Series: Technology Trends 2005
Efficient information delivery - conquering
overload.
Dr Cécile
Paris, Science Leader, Information Delivery, CSIRO ICT Centre
As the amount of information available continues to increase,
information access is no longer the problem we must address.
Instead, it has been replaced by information overload. If I need
current advice on superannuation from the government, Google says I
have 710,000 pages to choose from – but which one? And which are
relevant to me? There is an increasing need to be able to provide
users with information tailored to their needs, presented to them in
ways that are useful. To do so, we need to start understanding the
context for which information is needed. In this talk, we will look
at some of the issues that arise and how we might be able search for
information more effectively and present the results to users in
more effective ways.
