Seminar Series: Technology Trends 2005
BIOMETRICS
Paul
Watters, Macquarie University
Biometric technologies have rapidly expanded in the
past few years, both in terms of R&D and commercial exploitation.
However, many significant challenges remain, with respect to the
scalability of pattern recognition algorithms for many-many
matching, and the integration of such systems into existing
enterprise authentication frameworks. In this talk, I will discuss
some new approaches to embedding biometric data directly into the
public key infrastructure, so that data objects can be reliably
identified as belonging to a specific individual. I will also
demonstrate how the "third factor" in authentication can be
integrated into banking and finance systems, with a view to reducing
identity theft and fraud.
