DAVE: Quality Driven Approach for Adaptive Video DeliveryUma Srinivasan
and Surya Nepal Tuesday 24th June 2003 at 11am AbstractVideo is rapidly becoming an important component of information delivered over the Internet. Thus there is a growing need for applications to deliver good quality video segments that is adapted to a variety of client devices operating under both wired and wireless platforms. Adaptation requires: (a) a framework to support physical and semantic adaptation of a video, and (b) a mechanism for describing video content, and the environment in which it is to be delivered. We address this need through DAVE - a system that uses a quality-driven approach to deliver adaptive video. DAVE minimizes resource requirements by identifying relevant segments within a video and then scales the identified video segment to maximize user-viewing experience. In this talk we present our quality-driven adaptation approach to deliver video to a variety of devices. Short resume
