Abstract

The explosion of interactive development tools available to programmers and designers has opened a vast range of opportunities, and has also created a need for new levels of understanding of human-computer interaction. The design of appropriate user interfaces involves more subtlety and care than is usually given. We will look at some examples and discuss some of the issues that arises from the deeper aspects of interaction design.

Currently web manager for the CSIRO divisions of Mathematical and Information Sciences and Telecommunications and Industrial Physics, Peter was for ten years prior Director of Eye Cue Communications Pty Ltd where he was princippal multimedia and internet designer.  Peter has also been a part time lecturer in multimedia new media at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. He has longstanding professional interest and experience in human-computer interaction.
