Abstract
Metadata sure isn't the glamorous side of the street. Few know
anything about it and even fewer care and yet its importance grows
with every document created. It will take a person many years
to learn to read, work out what is important and store it in their
brain for later recall. These functions are the creation metadata.
With the volume of content currently at our disposal and the importance
of discovering new relationships between disparate information
islands, these functions can no longer be performed by humans.
This presentation explains metadata, looks at the issues of automatically
generating metadata and the contribution of this to long term
goals.
