Abstract

Much of the hype associated with Internet Commerce has been associated with purchasing by consumers. Over the past year or two many market analysts have become bullish about the uptake of business-to-business internet commerce, and how it will reduce the costs of business transactions.

This presentation discusses case studies in three different industry sectors where the Internet is being used to create trading communities to improve communications between participants, and to reduce the cost of business transactions. The three case studies are:

  • PEG - a trading environment in the pharmaceutical supply chain;
  • EC-Net - an on-line facility to help SMEs manage their superannuation payments, and
  • Freshport - an on-line community and trading environment for the horticultural industry.
