Abstract

The design and construction of search engines on the World Wide Web has to take into account a number of parameters which have no parallels in traditional search environments. In this talk, I will discuss some pertinent issues I have investigated and I will present ways in which search has been made more effective as a result of this investigation. In particular, I will show that some of these solutions are only possible due to the unique situation the Web represents.
