Abstract
Genesis 2000 is a global collaboration between CMIS, Division of
Petroleum Research and 6 Oil companies. A major aim of the project is to
collect drilling data and capture knowledge from wells drilled around
the globe. Technologies such as case based reasoning are used to select
analogous wells and adapt the previous cases to the proposed new
drilling situation. Users can also ask the system questions in natural
language and answers are supplied from the text based knowledge store.
Links to graphics and systems for visualisation of dense data are also
available to assist with answers to questions. A learn curve highlights
progress with corporate learning and allows a quick look at dense data
with the facility to delve deeper into interesting aspects. A
number of complex engineering models are included in which users are
assisted with safety critical drilling processes such as casing design
and pore pressure estimation, using both similar wells and models
derived from theory.
