Abstract

Belief revision is an area of research that has developed significantly over recent years. It provides mechanisms for changing repositories of information in the light of new information. As a process it is driven by the principle of Minimal Change, and can be used to incorporate new information into a knowledge base without compromising its integrity.

Dealing with change presents a significant problem for decision making in intelligent information systems, and we will show how Belief Revision techniques provide a sophisticated tool for modeling change.

This talk will outline the theory of belief revision, demonstrate a Java implementation and describe several real world applications in the areas of Software Engineering, Marketing Research, and Intelligent Business Agents.
